Alphabet House Day Nursery
Long Eaton & Chilwell

Our allotment
We are delighted to have been given a large piece of lane on the Attenborough Lane allotment site, just 3 minutes walk from our Chilwell nursery.
This allow us to take small groups of children, of all ages to the site to get involved with growing vegetables and flowers together with getting up and close with nature. We also plan to run Forest school sessions here too as well as at our woods.
As you can see by the photographs the site needed lots of hard work before we could begin sessions but we are constantly developing and improving the site.

May 2019: Our neglected allotment
June 2019: Work starts on clearing the site

June/July 2019: Our Chilwell children get to work, digging over the soil and planting pumpkin plants which they have grown from seed at nursery.

October 2019: Our first crop of pumpkins. Some went to nursery others we took in our cart to Landermeads care home for the children to carve with the care home residents.

September 2020:
Due to lock down we have been unable to take children to the allotment, however we have still been planting various crops ready for their return. Over the past few weeks we have been on trips down there is pick courgettes, beans and carrots and to dig up potatoes and onions.
Summer 2021
The allotment is regularly used by all the nursery children now and it has also become a great place for them to practice their forest school skills.
Our plans for 2022
With the help of local residents we have been able to clear all the rubbish and waste at the back of the allotment site. We hope to turn this into an adventure playground for the children.
